The promo length is only one variable

Balance-transfer cards often charge a percentage fee on the amount moved, and transfers usually must be completed within a defined window to receive the promotional rate. Purchase promotions can have a different duration from balance-transfer promotions.

Citi Simplicity currently advertises 0% for 21 months on balance transfers and 12 months on purchases, with transfers completed within four months. Discover it Cash Back currently advertises 0% for 15 months on purchases and balance transfers. Bank of America currently lists BankAmericard with a 21-billing-cycle intro period.

Build the payoff plan first

Divide the amount you need to repay by the number of promotional months, then add a cushion so the balance is cleared before the standard variable APR applies. If that payment is unrealistic, the card does not solve the underlying affordability problem.

Do not confuse 0% with free

A balance-transfer fee can create an immediate cost, late or missed payments can have consequences under card terms, and any balance remaining after the promotion is subject to the ongoing APR. Always read the current pricing disclosure before applying.
