This week’s national benchmark

Freddie Mac says its PMMS is based on mortgage-rate data collected from thousands of loan applications submitted through Loan Product Advisor by lenders across the country. The survey is a market benchmark, not a personalized rate quote.

Why your offered rate can be different

Your quote can differ because of credit profile, down payment, loan amount, property type, loan program, points, lender pricing and the time of day or date the quote is produced. Compare Loan Estimates rather than assuming the national average is available to you.

What changed

The 30-year average moved from 6.67% on August 13 to 6.65% on August 20. The 15-year average moved from 5.96% to 5.95%. Small changes can still affect payment and lifetime interest on a large mortgage.
